Septarian is a variety of concretion, composed of several minerals, Although the exact process is unclear, it is formed by balls of mud and organic material drying out and cracking, and those cracks are later filled with mineral solutions of calcite or barite. Common minerals in septarian nodules include pyrite, aragonite, limestone, shale or mudstone and its appearance shows cemented cracks.
